Ok what are your thoughts??

I keep hearing all about this "baby sling" that is being recalled. I just saw a reporter telling us that the baby's face should never be covered when it is in the sling and the baby should not be lying on its side with its face pressed up against the side of the sling, etc etc etc....

Can I say something here? DUH.......!!!!!!

To begin with I would like to ask why mothers are strapping these infants around their necks to carry them? What happened with just carrying the baby in your arms? Are we carrying babies around like a hobo purse because then it leaves our hands free to drive the car, talk on the cell phone and drink fancy coffee?? PLEASE do not tell me that they are driving with their babies in these purses!!

While I am on the topic, what is up with the trend of completely redesigning the hot dog because it is a choking hazard? Children have been eating hot dogs for over 50 yrs the shape didnt matter when I was a child, WHY does it matter now? Is it possible that the parents/grandparents/caregivers of the children are not cutting the hot dog up to make it easier to eat and the kiddos are choking? OMG could it be???

And just now the NBC news announced that the makers of window blinds are trying to figure out how to design the blinds WITHOUT the pull cords. seriously? Seriously people??? children are hanging themselves on the window blinds...

OK. now I am going to sound like an old fogey and I am really not, but does anyone remember venetian blinds?? Our house was full of venetian blinds when I was growing up, not only were they sharp as razors, they had ..... OMG.... CORDS on them!!! I dont know one single kid that wrapped that cord around their neck and tried to hang themselves. We had enough sense to NOT mess with the cord. Of course, my mother watched me like a hawk. She knew where I was and what I was doing 24/7. She didnt own a cell phone, or a blackberry, and she didnt work out of the home. Is that the difference in what is going on today and what went on 50 years ago?

What are your thoughts???

A few of my pet peeves.....

I have been running into several of my pet peeves lately, and I thought I would share.

Here are some that seem blog worthy:

My List of 5 Pet Peeves

1. passwords. Every stinking website thinks it needs to make you register and think of a password. I have passwords for passwords! I have so many passwords at work that I had to write them on the back of my name badge! LOL And there are password rules! I cant just use the same password over and over, I have to change it completely. Every so often our documentation program requires you to change your password and it cannot be a variation of your previous FIVE passwords! OMG who remembers????? I even have a password on the recumbent bike at the gym! Thats going a little too far...

2. people who do not renew their license plates on their vehicles. Everyone in Colorado knows that our license plates are expensive. Just one of the requirements of living here. If we dont pay those fees, our roads would be crap and the state would be low on money. Why is it that probably 1/3 of the cars on the road have EXPIRED PLATES???? Why arent these people getting stopped and ticketed? Our neighbor across the street has a Jeep Grand Cherokee that has plates that expired in March of 2009! A freaking year ago! And down the street there is a car who's plates expired in September of 2009. C'mon people, pay up or get rid of your car!

3. Smokers on prescription medication who come to the ER for meds because they "cant afford their prescriptions"... umm you smoke 2 packs of cigarettes a day and you cant afford a $4 prescription??? LOSER...

4. The phrase "my bad". What kind of grammar is that???

5. Hip Hop/rap singers who are felons and given lots of attention on TV. These people are criminals, why are we sensationalizing them and their life?

And one more for good measure......

6. Celebrities who go to rehab when they get caught doing something undesirable. ie Tiger Woods, Charlie Sheen, Lindsey Lohan, Brittany Spears, etc.

what are some of your pet peeves?

I forgot one! Hot flashes. I hate them, I loathe them! I want them to go away!

Crack Kills!!

Whew! what a wicked week! my blogging abilities have suffered due to the demand for my presence at work. I would rather be blogging. kind of. LOL

Work has been really demanding, we are trying to get our physician documentation program ready for a go-live on March 30, and running into all kinds of road blocks. One of which is the lack of IT staff who are available to help us go live. I could help but the powers that be wont let me, so I stand back and watch the 2 IT people work themselves into a frenzy... doesnt make sense to me.

I am really getting into my trauma registrar job, and hoping that in the next 6 months senior management will grant me 12 more hours a week to take on the trauma coordinator job. My boss is hoping so too, right now she is trying to do nurse manager of the ED and trauma coordi
nator and its getting to be too much.

Nothing would make me happier than
to have a desk job! LOLOL

Speaking of work.... we are having some remodeling done and the hospital has hired a contractor to do some of the removal and replacement of sidewalks. It was with great surprise that we saw this site on Thursday, right out the window of the ER!!! I knew we had a meth problem here
, but nothing could prepare me for this serious crack problem!!!!

And I will leave you all with that image.... see you on another day!

A Decision

I just had a revelation! I havent blogged for quite a while, I confess, sometimes I just forget to blog.

Today I have made a decision. I have decided to change the purpose of my blog to focus on *me*. In the past I have always tried to find a topic or a theme or something like that to blog about, but not any more. I am going to use my blog to put down my feelings, thoughts, rants and funny stories.

I apologize to anyone who is incredibly bored by this. Stay tuned though. you might even hear a story from the ER or something....

Today, I am sitting here with great anticipation, getting ready to watch the Academy Awards. I love love love the Oscars! I always have, I am not a particularly starstruck person, but my mom loved Hollywood and I always loved her appreciation of the Hollywood Hoopla. My dad told me several times after she passed away, that my mom was a dancer, and she always wanted to go to Hollywood. She did make it one day, when my dad was stationed at Ft McArthur while he was in the Air Force, they lived in southern California, and I can promise you my mom visited Hollywood.

As for the Oscars, I can tell that I have a ton of movies to see! Some of them look really good!

Now more news on the *me* front. I am on Jenny Craig, since I havent been blogging you all probably didnt know that I started on JC about 5 weeks ago. It is a good program (although it is expensive) and the food is amazing. I am not sure how long though, that I can afford it, and stick with just eating food out of a box. hahaha

I am hoping to make it three months, time will tell I guess. So far I am down 11.6lbs, tomorrow is my weigh in day, I am not expecting a whole lot from this week, I havent really had a great week.

So, I am off to watch the stars!! More to come tomorrow!
