Alcohol and illegal drugs!!

Kind of sounds like "Arsenic and Old Lace" doesnt it? LOL

I am headed to work in a little while, and the majority of our nights usually revolve around alcohol and illegal drugs. What has happened to people nowadays? I have never seen so many substance abusers in my life! And where are they getting the money to spend on this stuff? Inquiring minds want to know. LOL

Its a sad situation, but true. It becomes routine and we, as ER employees just have to deal with it. Seeing people at their worst has seriously tainted my opinion of people in general, I would rather work with dogs or horses. LOL

Oh well, on a lighter note, we have another "red flag warning" in western Colorado today. We have had a LOT of wind, (high winds) this spring and the fire danger is very high. The wind blows so hard that you cannot leave your windows open or the whole house ends up being full of topsoil.. SO I have the AC on, and Frankie and Max are giving the AC 8 paws up! They go outside to do their business and hurry right back in to enjoy the AC.

We are still waiting on the Air Force to release Breannas records, and I am waiting to hear from our congressman, if I havent heard from him by Friday I will be calling his office on Monday.

Its boring in our world, I am off to work for some excitement!

More Ramblings...

Sometimes I am just inclined to ramble.. and this is one of those times. I have a lot to say and none of it is connected.
Right now I am watching a PBS documentary called "Carrier", it s a 10 hour documentary spread over 5 days following the crew of the USS Nimitz. On ship and off ship interviews and basically just seeing what the Sailors go through. The Nimitz is a HUGE aircraft carrier and carries a crew of 5,000 men and women. Tonight they are in the middle east. They are at a hotel swimming pool and the local women are dressed in black birkas and they look like the grim reaper! LOLOLOL

Ok moving on, I LOVE refrigerated Air Conditioning! And so do our hounds.. Today it got warm, up to 85 degrees and I rearranged the living room, cleaned the house and turned the AC on. Frankie and Max thinks its just about the best invention since liver snacks! They flopped down and immediately took a long nap on the cool floor.

Its back to work for me tomorrow, I live for my days off. I literally work FOR MY DAYS OFF. I hope we have an easy 3 nights.

One more thing.. we are still waiting for our income tax rebates.. what about you??

Lifeguard Training!

Breanna is now officially an "Ellis trained Lifeguard". She has spent the last 3 days in training for her new job as a Lifeguard/swim instructor for the City of Grand Junction. She was already a Red cross trained lifeguard, but with the Ellis program she gained a lot of advanced lifesaving knowledge and learned different techniques .

Ellis trained lifeguards are used by all of the Major theme parks across the US. Disneyland, Disneyworld, Six Flags etc...

She did well with the training, got to spend a lot of time in the water and that is right up her alley. She had her drug test today, so I think she is all set. The pools where she will be working are fairly large. One is outside with kiddie pools and a huge water slide. And one is inside with a water slide and jacuzzi.

I will eventually get pics of her at work, and post them.

By the way, IRS rebate checks are on their way! Breanna has already received hers, we wont get ours until the last issue. I am thinking about MAYBE trading off my Grand Cherokee for a smaller SUV that will get better gas mileage. We traded Dana's Grand Cherokee in last November for a 2007 Ford Escape, I LOVE this car!! I am thinking I want one too! We will see... time will tell.

Wine tasting...

I had a new experience today, a fun experience and one that I can probably get used to very quickly. My oldest sister owns a Winery and today they had a "barrel tasting". I am not a wine drinker at all, never have been. So I went to help my middle sister serve goodies. (I think I would love to be a caterer, how did I end up in nursing? LOLOL)

By the way, the goodies that we served are NOT on Weight Watchers! LOL

My sisters specialty wine is Port, which is a desert wine (so they tell me) and it is usually served with sweet treats.

We served miniature eclairs, cheesecake bites, chocolate dipped strawberries, little deli sandwich rounds, stilson cheese and crackers. We had a beautiful layout and many happy wine tasters. It was really fun, I am glad I did it, hopefully I will be asked to help again.

Its a good thing that they dont make a wine that is best served with chili cheese fries or cheeseburgers, I cant keep my hands off of them, but I did ok keeping my hands off of the goodies that we served today... well most of the time.

We had a beautiful day here in western Colorado today, bright sunshine, no wind, and mid 60 degree temperatures. We could not have asked for a better weather day.

I am baaaack!

Sorry about the short hiatus there, we had a rough night in the ER last night so I was unable to post.

I have realized that if it werent for alcohol and illegal drugs, my job would be much more mundane than it is right now! It might even border on boring once in a while! I wrestled a drunk or two, was screamed at by a person or two and spent half of the night in the company of local law enforcement... LOL

Not much going on around here, I have a few days off now to get the house cleaned, laundry done, etc.

I will be back tomorrow with a blog topic that is more interesting than this one. I have to get some sleep, regroup and think up a topic!!

but before I leave, here is a wiener to make you smile....

Wait, weight......

Just a short post today, I am on day 2 of a 3 day stretch at work and about all I get to do is sleep, eat, work, sleep, eat, you get the idea.

12 hour shifts really take a giant bite out of your day!

Anyway, moving on. We are still waiting on Breannas medical records from the Air Force. At this point we could wait forever! The Navy recruiter sent off for her records from the VA in St Louis in March, so we are going on 7 weeks or so that nothing has happened. I feel this urgency to get her paperwork done so she can get her physical done at MEPS and take her DLAB. Once that is over I think it will be better. I have heard of red tape waiting periods but this is getting ridiculous! And since I have NO faith whatsoever in the ability of the USAF to produce medical records, it isnt making it easier.

At this point, Breanna is planning her ship date to boot camp to be mid August. Wish us luck!!

As for the "weight" part of this post, I have started CORE again. CORE is a part of the Weight Watchers plan where you do not count points, but you eat certain types of food. So far, so good. I am still inclined to count points, I have to make myself stop doing this! LOL I have lost the majority of my weight on the flex plan so this is a new venture for me. I will keep you posted.

Please send out prayers today to one of my online blogger friends husband.. Mr Hallisicle is having MAJOR surgery today and, of course, it has been a big stressor for him and Hallie and the whole family.

I believe in the power of prayer. So I am asking everyone to just stop for a moment and ask that John make it through this surgery without complications and that his recovery is easy and short.

This isnt his first surgery and last time he had complications, so blogging community, lets all work together to help John and Hallie through this.

I wonder if he can have a laptop in the hospital? If so, HANG IN THERE JOHN! We are all thinking of you...

A Wii bit tired but a lot of fun!!!

Today we bought a Wii! I have wanted one for a long time, and they are so difficult to find that we found one and we bought it!! We were told that the closest available Wii was in Albuquerque New Mexico, so we are lucky we stumbled on this one.

What a FUN little machine. I have been trying to increase my activity and playing the Wii really does it! This afternoon, Dana and I played one game of bowling, 2 matches and 2 sets of tennis and a full baseball game.

My shoulder needs iced, I pitched 7 innings. LOLOL This reminds me of just how much I LOVE playing softball, if I can get 20 more lbs off I would join a womans over 50 softball league.. Maybe next summer.

The next thing on my wish list is a Wii Fit. It doesnt come out until May 21, I might have to go on a waiting list for it.

So far, my favorite game is baseball!!! What a fun way to get exercise!

9 month old baby I have ever seen! OR maybe I am biased?? This is JR, my nieces son, my middle sisters only grandchild and the one who makes us all melt into a big gob of mush whenever he smiles...

JR lives with his mom and dad in Aurora CO, and we dont get to see him nearly as often as we would like, but we are blessed that he lives as close to us as he does.

JR's mom was many times mistaken for my daughter when she was small and she has always been very special to me. We share the same interests (we are both RN's) the same love of shopping (YAH!) and the same personality and sense of humor.. I am so jazzed that we are living closer to them and can enjoy them and JR more often than ever before.

Is anyone out there??

One of the things that I decided when I started this blog was to use it as a form of catharsis, where I can gripe, laugh, and post pictures.

It did occur to me a few days ago that I sometimes dont know if I am talking to myself or if I have any regular readers out there.

I will continue to blog, no matter what because, it is completely addicting. But hey, throw me a bone, will ya? hahahaha

If anyone is out there drop me a comment now and then. (how is that for a pitiful attempt at begging?)

One of our Air Force moms, and fellow bloggers, (Hallie) is having a contest on her blog, she is asking everyone to send in cute pet pics. I submitted one of our little Frankie... I had a last minute schedule change at work this week, so I am off tonight and I have to work on Saturday night. Hopefully, I will be able to update this blog tomorrow before going to work.

We are pretty much status quo here, still waiting on the Air Force to send Breannas medical records, it seems like we have been waiting on the Air Force for the better part of the last year. Frankly, I am getting tired of it. I will be glad when all ties to them have been severed!

Today is PIR day at Great Lakes Recruit Training Facility in Illinois! Congratulations to all the new Sailors who are starting their journey in the Navy. May you all have a fulfilling career serving our country. And to the moms and dads, give lots of hugs, take lots of pics and dont forget to share them when you get home. :-)

Is It wednesday already??

Back to work tonight, it doesnt seem like its been 11 days off for me. I LOVE vacations! I want to make a living at going on vacation, it can be done, I have relatives who do this... (my sister Sheila will know what this means haha)

ANYWAY.. its back to the old grindstone tonight.

Good news! Frankie has finally got it! He is getting the potty training thing down, as long as we pay attention to him when he goes to the door, he will go out and do his business. Hopefully soon we can get a doggie door installed and that will help too. When it was warm this week we actually propped the front door open and he went in and out on his own. WAHOO!!! Dachshunds are historically difficult to house train so this is a huge achievement. YAY Frankie!!

Red Flag Warning!

Batten down the hatches!! I dont know what that means but if we had hatches we would need to batten them. The WIND is blowing, no make that wailing! Here in western Colorado we have wind and its getting ugly and very dusty...Here is our current weather forecast:

The winds have been gusting to 50mph all day and tomorrow it is supposed to be in the 40's and it could snow!! It WILL snow in elevations above 7,000 feet (we are at 5,000 feet). Talk about weather changes, Bre says its the Apocalypse because God hates George W Bush!!! I dont know if God is a Democrat or not but this is one heckuva storm coming!!

So, for those of you east of Colorado (I have Kansas and Missouri in mind) dig in, its coming your way!!

They just issued a "small pet warning" Frankie is refusing to go outside! LOL

I believe in positive thinking....

And I hope you all do too. I want to ask everyone to send some heavy duty positive thoughts to the son of an online friend of mine, who is taking a very difficult test on Wednesday. This Airmans name is CJ (aka Schmoops) and he is in an extremely intense program for the Air Force, he has finished SERE training and is currently in Florida for his tech school.

Schmoops, our thoughts and best wishes are heading your way! If there was any way I could channel anything more to you I would. Maybe with everyone thinking positive test passing thoughts it will ease your anxiety! Hang in there Airman Schmoops!

Speaking of positive thinking, I have a friend who has been reading the book "The Secret". She speaks so highly of it that I just had to pick it up and begin reading. I am mesmerized. I plan to pick up a copy for myself today and read it. It is based on the "law of attraction" and basically from what I have gleened out, it pretty much says positive thoughts will bring positive outcomes...

I will let you know what I find out. I like positive thinking, it makes me feel good.

The seven dwarfs of menopause...

Menopause sucks.... I can handle most of the symptoms but the memory loss is driving me CRAZY!! I am usually not good with names anyway but now I am forgetting faces. It is a sad deal. I dont remember what I had for lunch yesterday! LOL

Anyway, I found this cartoon and it is my new favorite. The seven dwarfs of menopause define me perfectly and they give me a smile.. I found them on google, so I dont even know who to give credit to, but whoever you are. Thanks for sharing! LOL

So news on Breanna, no news. She has been called by the city Recreation dept for a lifeguard/swim instructor job. She will take their certification class the end of April. She is currently Red Cross certified, but this will give her another certification and she needs her CPR renewed, so I think she is going to do it. She is also supposed to stop in and see the Chief in the Navy recruiting office on Monday. We are still waiting for the USAF to send her medical records to the Navy so they can complete her waiver. I am beginning to wonder if they will ever send it. So.... we wait!!

"Lonestar People"

I took the opportunity to do some people watching while I was in Las Vegas. I heard once about a guy who really defined our "caste system" here in the US. Other countries have an open caste system, we have a hidden caste system. But it exists and here, my friends, is a bit of an interpretation based on my observations...

"One star people" (aka Lonestars)- those who only bathe once a week, the woman goes out to dinner or shopping wearing the 10 yr old hole-ridden NASCAR (or beer) t-shirts that once belonged to the "two star" family down the street, purchased by the lonestar woman at a really nifty yard sale last year. (and the tshirts usually do not cover the jiggling midriff of said lonestar woman...) This ensemble is completed by a very tight pair of stretch pants, too short at the ankle and worn completely through on the inner thigh.

The lonestar women do not wear bras or makeup, or shoes with laces. They are usually clad in flip flops that have duct tape holding the strap to the shoe, a marlboro in one hand and a trac phone in the other. And they are chewing gum... always chewing gum.

The lonestar men are usually wearing dirty shirts also, but his might have some really witty sayings like "I am with stupid" or "who farted?"... The men do not wash their hair and they dont bathe very frequently either. He will wear dingy dirty jeans, with holes in them, slung low under the beer belly to show just enough crack in the back to let people know just how he loves his body!

"Two star people" Those who feel like they are one step up from the lonestars, they do wash their laundry, and they do bathe once in a while. They choose to buy cigarettes and beer instead of food, and they are usually defined by what type of classic car they drive.

They also have nifty yard sales. Two stars can usually be found at the local coffee shop drinking coffee and solving all of the countries political problems, because they do not work on a regular basis.

"Three star people" They want better. They usually have jobs, but do not manage their money well. They pay their rent, (usually late) and try their hardest to keep their cars in running condition. Priorities prevent them from throwing their hard earned money away on luxuries like cable TV or wireless internet, but when it comes to yard decorations, they spare no cost! They buy snow globe yard decorations for Christmas, and flying witches and bats and blow up goblins for their yard for Halloween. If you want to have a good time, just walk through a 3 star neighborhood, you will find them outside sitting on the porch, sipping a Bud, smoking a cigarette and trying not to ignite their most recent inflatable yard ornament!

"Four star people" Those who fall under this category work too much, dont get enough sleep, try to stay trendy with their SUV's and electronic toys and worry about retirement accounts and income tax. The Four stars dont take enough vacations or time for themselves. They dress well, they wear nice jewelry and their credit cards are maxed out. The 4 stars want their kids to be college bound but accept the kids who want to join the military or want to just get out in the work force. The 4 stars are private people but keep an eye out to see if the neighbor brings home new toys of any kinds.... 4 stars are happy, they like their lives and what they have earned over the years... they are the luckiest.

"Five Star people" 5 stars are perhaps the worst of the caste system. They try to be what they arent. They are worried about what other 5 stars think about them, about what kind of car they drive and about what kind of house they have and what college their kids attend. They spend so much time worrying about what others think and trying to impress the rest of the caste system that they arent happy. They use too many drugs, drink too much alcohol and frequent rehab centers too often. 5 stars do NOT want to be anywhere near lonestars or 2 or 3 stars and can barely tolerate 4 stars.. They die lonely.

SO! what do you think of my caste system? Am I close? Am I way off? I came to these conclusions watching people while we were in Las Vegas. There were folks there from all of the classes... and most of them were having fun! I am still not so sure about the 5 stars, I think it must be miserable to spend so much time worrying whether the other people know just how important and rich they are!

No matter what group you are from, lift your head high, enjoy life and live each day like it is your last!!!

For Adults Only... A rant

OK can someone PLEASE shed some light on this subject for me? I have been thinking for the past 2 days about what topic I want to write on tonight, and this has to be it..

WHY in heavens name do parents bring children to Las Vegas??? Not school aged children, I guess you can always bring them to Circus Circus and the Riveria and let them play in the arcade and Adventuredome, but INFANTS!! Little babies who only want to stay warm, and sleep and play a little and eat... Little children who need to STAY HOME with grandparents if mom and dad must go to Las Vegas....

I have been people watching for 4 days and I have come to the conclusion that young parents nowadays are selfish. (now not all of them, but the ones who expose their children to Las Vegas vacations). I am sorry if I offend anyone, but babies and toddlers really DONT want to listen to the slot machines, and they dont want to be in 35mph 60 degree wind (it was not the greatest weather today and yesterday) and they dont want to inhale CIGARETTE SMOKE from the casinos, or be off of their schedules (IF they have schedules)! All in all, the majority of the little ones that I saw were crying, or whining and making everyone around them miserable.

School aged kids can handle it, even the younger ones, they seem to adjust, ask lots of questions (mommy why does that lady have her boobies hanging out of her shirt?) or (mommy what are those playing cards with naked ladies on them sticking in the fence?) or a plethora of other questions which are no doubt embarassing to mommy.... but they can at least understand, or attempt to understand that they cannot stand in the casino and watch the circus acts upstairs. (now if someone could just convince mom and dad that the kiddos cant stand in the casino and watch the circus acts upstairs, it will be easier on everyone...)

This question will forever go unanswered I am sure. I have decided, like I said before, that the parents are just selfish. They dont want to stay at home with the babies, because mom and dad DO NOT WANT TO STAY HOME! We actually saw one couple with maybe a 5 or 6 month old infant, who already had Disneyworld tags and labels on the babies stroller and now they were in Vegas.....

And, while I am ranting.. If you have to sit on a scooter in order to get from point A to point B... DONT GO TO LAS VEGAS AND TRY TO RIDE A BUS!!!!

I need an Ativan. LMAO

Still Hanging out in Vegas!

We are having an awesome time here in Las Vegas. The weather is great, not as warm yesterday and today but its better than winter! We have gambled at a lot of the casino's. Ceasar's Palace, The Mirage, NY NY, Circus Circus, MGM Grande, Treasure Island and a few smaller places on the strip. Today we are going down to see the Luxor.

Last night we went downtown on Fremont street, talk about packed! It was packed with people. Breanna and I had our pictures taken with the Chippendale guys (see her blog for that one when we get home) and we listened to a rock band playing and did some gambling down there too.

Breanna is funny when she plays the slots. She puts her dollar bill in and when she doubles it, she cashes out! She has been able to stay ahead of the game for the entire time we have been here doing that.

Tucked away in our room at Circus Circus in Las Vegas. We are having a blast, and have taken a bunch of pics. Hopefully tomorrow I can get them downloaded. Today we walked down Las Vegas BLVD. Did some gambling at Treasure Island, and at Ceasars Palace, and then back to the Circus and did some gambling there.

I think we are up a few dollars. I found some money in the change maker and I have hit a couple of jackpots. All in all we are having a lot of fun.

The weather is heavenly, temps in the 80's and lots of beautiful desert sunshine!

More to come tomorrow, I think we walked about 5 or 6 miles today!!!

Viva Las Vegas!!!

We are making final preparations for our flight to LAS VEGAS BABY!!!!!!

Bags are packed, Ipod is charged, and in a few short hours we will be on our way!!

We are staying at Circus Circus, it was part of the package that we bought. And we are really looking forward to having some fun, relaxing, eating and maybe plugging a slot machine or two.

Breanna is 5 months away from being 21 so she is bummed, she wanted to play poker, but maybe she can at least walk through the casinos with us, right? I am going to take some pictures and download them to Danas laptop so I can update my blog in a day or two, stay tuned. We found out that Circus Circus doesnt have wifi (?????I didnt know that any hotel didnt have wifi) so that changes our internet surfing plans a little bit, but we will find somewhere to log on...

Anyway, wish us luck! Be back soon!

Our boys are at the kennel

We leave tomorrow and thought it would be better to take them over to the kennel tonight because the drop off times tomorrow were after our flight.

Frankie was excited and listening to everything and barking at everything, and Max just put his head down and went where he was led. I hope he doesnt think we will never come back to get him. Sometimes with a rescue dog you dont know what goes through their head. Some people say that dogs dont have the same sense of time that we do..

I dont know if I buy that but it could be true. One thing is for sure, Max has spent a large part of his 4 years confined in a crate, when he was brought into rescue he had been laying in his own waste for so long that he actually has a scar where he had "urine burns".. poor baby... his foster mom and Utah friends of Basset hounds did a great job of getting him vet care and except for the scarring in his fur he is all healed from that ordeal.

When we got him he was having dermatitis between his toes on his front paws, and through a change of food we healed that.... He is doing much better now.

Dana said he thought Frankie would do fine at the kennel but wasnt sure how I would do with him at the kennel. LOLOL I already miss him. :-(

Checking the Calendar

Is it Saturday morning yet? I guess not.. I keep thinking that this week must be over because it sure feels like 7 days have passed. And the last 2 nights at work have surely been 24 hours long.

I guess I am just excited. Call it anxious or excitement or whatever, but I want to go on vacation! I want to sleep in and read a book and go to the pool, and just hang out with Dana and Breanna. I want to be a bum....

We are leaving for Las Vegas on Sunday evening, In case you didnt know, I can hardly wait! Our boys are going to the kennel on Saturday evening. Frankie has never been away from home and away from mom and dad. At least not that he can remember. He is such a mommas boy, I love that about him. He is the funnest dog I have ever had, and I love love love him!!

I am also hoping that Max doesnt think we are abandoning him at the kennel, he has been abandoned before in his past, and I dont want him to think we are doing it to him again. Do dogs really reason like that? I have been told that a dogs sense of time isnt like that of a human. How do we know? Who is the person who spoke to their dog to get that answer???

I doubt that I will get to update this blog on Friday night. (Friday nights are either horrible at work or semi horrible)

The "Eyes" have it!!

Today I had an appointment with a new eye doctor. I have been wearing glasses that are about 3 yrs old, (since Reggie chewed up my BRAND NEW glasses last year at this time!) So I took myself into Dr T's office and had a wonderful experience. He is an AWESOME doctor (thank you for referring him, Sis) and I picked out some totally cool glasses.

My glasses wont be ready until next week, so I will pick them up when I get back from Las Vegas. (did I mention we are going to LV on Sunday??) thats another story, but anyway I will pick them up when we get back.

During my exam, Dr T dilated my eyes. OMG. This is the creepiest thing!! I hate having my eyes dilated. I look like this:

And I am sure people think I am on drugs. LOL (this is your brain on drugs, by the way)

It took 5 or 6 hours for those darned pupils to go down! Great googley moogley.... literally!!

The outcome of the eye appointment? My eyes are not in bad shape, glasses are being made as we speak, all is good!
