Twitter??

Can someone PLEASE tell me what the obsession is with Twitter nowadays? What exactly is it and why would I want to join?

It may be something that I need to do. LOL I have never checked it out because I am resisting the urge. But if I were more informed, then maybe I would want to do it... And what is "tweeting?"

I am thinking that I dont want people to know what I am doing every second of every day.

Do you guys twitter?

WHAT is this world coming to?

The Sham-wow guy has been arrested! Yes, my friends, its sad but true. Here is the story:

Vince Shlomi, best known as television's ShamWow! guy, was arrested in Miami last month. For beating up a prostitute. Who allegedly tried to bite his tongue out.
The Smoking Gun got hold of the police report
and Mr. Shlomi's mug shot, and as you can see, he didn't escape unscathed. But neither did she. The facts of the case, briefly, according to the police report:

  • Shlomi meets Sasha Harris in a Miami club. They go back to his hotel.
  • She propositions him for "straight sex." He pays her a thousand bucks in cash.
  • He kisses her.
  • She "bit his tongue and would not let go."
  • He punches her in her face repeatedly until she lets go.
  • He runs down to the hotel lobby.
  • They both get arrested.
I am stunned. Here is a copy of the actual police report:

Did I mentioned that I was stunned? :-) The whole "as seen on TV" world is shaken up I am sure. LOL

Winter Storm Warning!

Colorado is being hit hard by a huge winter storm. Snow, blowing snow, ice packed roads, I-70 closed at Vail Pass, Denver is calling out the National Guard.

BUT...... here in the banana belt, our weather is just a tad unseasonably cool. Only in the high 30's today. Our roads are dry, we have a light dusting of snow from the storm over night, maybe 1/2" if that much and tomorrow we are going to have beautiful SUNSHINE!

Welcome to western Colorado, Gods playground!

Thanks for the call today Lisa, I wish I had been up on the slopes, our local ski area has received 20 inches of fresh powder in the last 2 days.....

But, I had to sit NINE AND A HALF HOURS in a freaking mandatory "skills day" at work. It was long, it was boring, and it was my day off.

The things we have to do to keep the hospital doors open..

6 degrees of Kevin Bacon....

We are 4 degrees from Kevin Bacon.

Let me explain. My brother in law, M was once a contestant on a game show on the A&E network, called "House of Dreams". Through this show he became good friends with George Wendt, who appeared as the character Norm in the TV show, "Cheers". M has also been a screenwriter for the A&E network.

George Wendt is 2 degrees from Kevin Bacon, M is 1 degree from George Wendt, so that makes us 4 degrees from Kevin Bacon!

Apparently, Kevin Bacon once stated that he had worked with every actor in Hollywood at one time or another, and people wanted to find out how close they were to him, hence the birth of the trivia game "6 degrees of Kevin Bacon".You can see the game here:

The Kevin Bacon Game

I dont know if this is a good thing or a bad thing, I like Kevin Bacon, but in the movie "The River Wild" he completely freaked me out.

Views From Vegas

I just realized that I have not posted pics that we took while we were in Las Vegas. For some reason, we usually end up with pictures of things and not pictures of us, but here goes...

We stayed at Excalibur, in tower 2. This is the
new addition and has beautiful rooms with big screen plasma TV's and HUGE walk in showers. I loved the room!

This is a look down the strip from the walkway between Excalibur and The Tropicana..

We finally got to see the moving statues in the mall under Caesars Palace. Very fun to watch!!!

The fountains at The Bellagio, they are beautiful during the day and breathtaking at night!

This picture taken inside of Excalibur, looking down from the mezzanine level:
Elvis and I posing in front of Dicks restaurant in Excalibur. Who says Elvis is dead?

We had a great time, I am ready to go back!!

This is why you are fat....

I stumbled onto this website while surfing around. And this just HAS to be the answer for Americas obesity problem... NOT! These are dishes that people have cooked up and sent in to the website. I am gagging as I post.

Check out these monstrocities:

This is called McSurf-n-turf. It is a McDonalds filet-of-fish sandwich inside of a quarter pounder with cheese!

Fried Chicken skin. OMG do people really eat this???

Scotch egg on a stick-a hard boiled egg on a stick, wrapped in sausage, rolled in breadcrumbs, then deep fried.

and the grand finale... Deep fried pepperoni pizza!

Is the blogworld falling apart?

I belong to Facebook and I see several of my blogging friends on there. In fact, these days its becoming more and more common for me to see them on Facebook and not on blogger.

Dont get me wrong, I like Facebook. It is fast and I have found people that I thought I had lost touch with forever, but blogging is where I can really say what I feel, let my hair down so to speak and say whats on my mind.

I dont blame them at all for posting more on Facebook than on blogger, but I miss them and I miss reading their blogs. And its not just one person, its several.

What do you guys think? Is blogworld in danger? Are we losing our blogfriends to other social networks?

I hope not.

Bloggers Block! AKA random thoughts in print...

Sometimes I have to blog about random thoughts that are racing around in my mind. And this is one of those times.

I thought I had bloggers block tonight, then I realized that I always have something to say, sometimes its not interesting but other times it is. My family is never at a loss for something to say, its in our genes. Here are some of my random thoughts tonight.

1. I love to laugh, spending time with my sisters gives me an opportunity to laugh freely and often. Tonight we went to my middle sisters house to see my niece and her little boy who were here visiting and I enjoyed a few chuckles while talking about our recent trip to OK for my moms funeral. I wont go into details, just suffice it to say that laughter is alive and well in our family.

Speaking of laughter, this blog post absolutely cracked me up! Please go over to
the blog of Girl in the Glasses and read the post for Friday Feb 19. I am still cracking up over that one!

2. Did you see on TV that the "Octomom" actually had to call 911 to get in her garage yesterday? She brought two of her babies home from the hospital. I am completely amazed. Soldiers are dying in Iraq and Afghanistan and these paparrazi morons are hanging around this baby making machines house to get a picture! WHY?

3. We have mosquitos. I do not ever remember having mosquitos hatching out in MARCH!!! I am sure it will get cold again, but the temp here, at 5,000 ft altitude in Colorado today was 77 degrees!! Is this global warming or just a funky weather pattern? Its freaky

4. The economy is alive and well at the restaurants here where we live. People were standing outside of Red Lobster tonight at 5:30pm waiting to be seated. And at Texas Roadhouse, and at many of the other restaurants in town.

5. The oil and gas industry is shutting down in western Colorado. I am thrilled over this. We have been inundated with people coming in here to work this industry for about the last 5+ years. They are all now moving on to the next state on the list to ruin the landscape, pollute the water, and kill of the wildlife with their toxic waste. good riddance.

6. How on earth did Natasha Richardson sustain an epidural bleed after hitting her head on a BEGINNER slope while skiing? I still think something is not being released about this occurance. One of my friends said she heard that this poor woman did not receive a CT scan after the accident.

7. I am thrilled that my favorite TV show "Bones" is back on tv! I am thrilled by simple things.

Have a great weekend everyone, I will post more tomorrow!

My New Toy!

You all know that I can be a techno-ho. I wasnt always interested in techno gadgets, until I married Dana, and he likes gadgets so I just kind of followed his lead. So he is to blame :-)

Anyway, I have been searching for a h
and held device that suits my needs to help me stay organized, provide entertainment, and be easy to carry and also to be something that I will use...

I have always wanted an Iphone. But we are on Verizon, and dont have any desire to return to AT&T, because of bad experiences with them when we lived in PA and they were the only carrier that was available at the time. So, my search broadened and I bought a blackberry storm. It was advertised as Verizons answer to the Iphone so I thought I would give it a
try. It was a good device, but I found out after using it, not exactly what I wanted. I also found out much later that there are virtually about 7 free applications for the Storm, and not many more paid applications that would apply to my needs, so that disappointed me.

Then, when we were in Las Vegas, I stumbled onto the Itouch. I fell in love at first sight, it is AMAZING and it does everything that I want and I can get thousands of applications depending on what I want it to do. AND... it plays my videos that I download from Itunes!! EURE
KA! I found what I had been looking for!

So, I bought an I touch, I sold my Storm, (thank goodness for Ebay) and I am a very happy camper!

Meet the Itouch!

I was stricken!

The defense attorney booted me right off of the jury! LOLOL

I reported for jury duty today, along with approx 45 other residents of our county. We were welcomed with open arms and big smiles, (made you wonder what was up). We were told that they know it is an inconvenience and that the people of our county are so appreciative of our willingness to serve on a jury. (Oh I just bet they are!!! ) We were also assured that since we were summonsed today then we wouldnt be called to jury duty for at least 2 yrs and possibly up to 8 years!

We got our juror badges and then had to sit and watch a 20 minute video telling us what a juror does, a tiny bit about the law and how proud we will be of serving on a jury. There are 3 sizes of jury's in Colorado, a 3 man jury (for a civil jury trial) a 6 man jury for a more severe civil trial or one that involves large amounts of money or a 12 man jury which is for a criminal trial.

We were there to assemble a criminal trial. Hmmmm I was hoping it was a murder trial, but it wasnt. I involved a felony weapons charge for a man who was on parole from another state and caught with drugs and guns in Colorado... BORING....

Anyway, we were sent to the courtroom and the judge talked, and then 25 individuals were called up for the first wave of jury selection. I was number 8! One of our security guards from the hospital that I am acquainted with was there and he was #7! We decided that no self respecting defense attorney would want us on the jury, and the questioning began...

Did I mention that the security guard from work was former law enforcement? LOLOL He was the first to go... AND the arresting detective on this case just happened to be the husband of one of my coworkers! LOL

After some good questions by the Assistant DA and some horrible questions from the public defender, they began to strike people from the panel. I was #4 to go. I think after I told the ADA that I didnt think there was such a thing as an "inconsequential law" and that I believed that if a felon was in possession of a gun illegally that he should go to jail, that the public defender kind of got the hint that I have no tolerance for felons, or those who possess illegal weapons. LOLOL

One thing that I was really surprised at was the number of people in our group who had been accused of a crime! Out of 25 there were probably 6 that had not been accused of a crime, and therefore had been involved with a district attorneys office somewhere!!

Many of those were drunk driving and minor in possession charges.. Good grief!!

So much for the excitement, I feel sorry for those who ended up getting stuck on the jury, this is going to be a long boring trial. The felon was pleading not guilty!

Juror 689!

That would be me! I have to serve on Jury duty tomorrow. Can you believe it? All 3 of us have been summonsed, and Dana and Breanna BOTH were canceled. But not me, just my luck.

So, tomorrow I have to go and sit and wait to see if I am called. Did I mention that my number is the LAST one in the sequence??? Did I mention that my luck sucks?

On one hand I hope I get called to a really juicy murder case, and on the other hand I hope I get dismissed. Something inside of me tells me that the lawyers really wont be keen on putting an ER nurse, who is a forensic examiner with 12 yrs experience dealing with law enforcement on a jury.

What do you think? Knowing my dandy luck I will probably be chosen to sit on a jury in a civil case where someone is suing their landscaper because their lawn has unwanted puddles or something.....

I will keep you posted!

What I Have Learned While in Las Vegas

Just checking in from the hotel room. I have learned many things while here in Las Vegas. Here are some of them:

1. Never, EVER come to Vegas during spring break again. The college students on spring break, drinking too much, talking too loudly and wearing few if little clothes, makes me feel afraid. Our nations future is in the hands of these people. be afraid, be very afraid!

2. Foreigners think they dont have to follow the rules. They walk against the light, sit/stand where it is prohibited, push, step in front of people taking pictures and are just rude in general.

3. The drivers of "The Deuce" are some of the best drivers I have ever seen. They have to share the road with those in topic #2 above. scary

4. Las Vegas is being given back to the adults! YAAAAY!!!!! it is obvious that it isnt a "family vacation place" anymore, I couldnt be more thrilled. Hopefully those baby buggy pushing 20-30 somethings who havent figured out that dragging the kiddos to an adult resort and trying to do adult things and go to adult places will realize that they will have more fun if they LEAVE THE CHILDREN AT HOME!!

5. I LOVE this place! We are headed for the pool as I am writing this, pure heaven on earth I say. My FAVORITE place to vacation...

6. Cirque de Soliel Mystere was amazing, we are going to see more cirque shows on the next trip.

So its back home tomorrow, back to work saturday, sunday, monday, tuesday and then If I dont rip someones head off because I worked 4 days in a row, I might get to do laundry. LOL

Monday, March 9, 2009

We are outta here!!

Maybe I will see ELVIS!!!

Is it that time already??

Daylight savings time? Already? It snowed here today, its WINTER for crying out loud, what part of WINTER signifies that its time to turn our clocks ahead?

I thought we just turned them back a couple of months ago. Wait.... we did!

Is it just me or is regular standard time getting shorter and shorter? Who remembers why we originally started screwing with our clocks? I do, It was a meager attempt of our governments to try and save energy. You guys who are older than 45 remember, speed limits went down, we had "gas shortages" and we started screwing with our clocks.

When it originated, if memory serves me correctly, we turned our clocks back the last week of October and we turned the clocks forward the end of April. OK, we dealt with it, May was closely approaching and the kids didnt have to stand out in the dark at the bus stop in the freaking middle of winter freezing their asses off just to "conserve energy".

OK, so dont forget to turn your clocks ahead tonight. Did I mention that I have to get up at 5:30am tomorrow (which was 4:30am last week grrrrr) to go to work?

I thought about it...

And I cant figure out why some things are like they are.

You know, why is it that the slowest person on the road is always in front of me, and going the same direction that I am going?

And WHY do we even care about this "Octomom" and what her mental state is and how much she looks like Angelina Jolie, and who the father of her litter is.

And WHEN are they going to convict the murdering, lying little twit Casey Anthony for the cold blooded murder of a sweet, innocent little 2 year old who just happened to be her daughter?

And why do I miss hearing my moms voice on the other end of the telephone, especially when I didnt talk to her on the phone as much as my other sisters did? And why do I hear her voice sometimes in my dreams?

And why is it so hard to convince a grown man (my dad) that living hear his family here will not be a bad thing, but a good thing for someone who has just lost his partner of 70 years..... sigh

Sometimes you just have to dance.

I have been saving this video for a day just like today. I dont really feel up to blogging, but I am feeling better.

I hope this makes you smile. See you tomorrow!

Oh, before I forget, Breanna had an appt with the hottie (she says)orthopedic surgeon today and talked him into releasing her back to modified duty. She can get back in the water!! He wasnt keen on the idea at first but after evaluating her progress he said she deserves to be rewarded for how hard she has worked to recover. She will be re-evaluated in 2 weeks and maybe released to full duty! WOO HOO!!! She is 100% pain free now, especially when she wakes up in the morning! Thank you God!!!

Ok without further adieu, "sometimes you just have to dance".

It caught Me!

And I didnt even know I was being chased.

First, I have to preface that I began having some bronchial congestion after we had been in Kansas for about 4 hours last week on our trip. I wasnt surprised because the entire 9 years that I lived in Kansas I had to take allergy medication. So, no biggie. Take the old medication and go on.

Thats what I did. The symptoms didnt get better after we left Kansas and kind of got worse over the last 72 hours, so I drug myself into work today, coughing, wheezing, etc and had my friend who is a doc listen to my lungs. I have pneumonia. Not a bad kind, caught early, started on costly medication and I have full intention to whip this things ass before we fly on Monday.

So, wish me luck! I continued to work today, (I dont have a fever) and I coughed, hacked and wheezed my way through all 12.5 hours, with most of the patients commenting that I appeared sicker than they were. duhhhhh...... When the nursing staff is more sick than the patients, we have problems with our healthcare system!!! Do ya think?????

I am off for the next 3 days, I promise to visit all your blogs tomorrow, and I will post a new entry to mine. I think its time for some ZZZzzzz's.....

Shopping debacle!

Dana and I are going to escape to Las Vegas next week, just the two of us. We are going to spend some time in my favorite fun place on earth, and man I can hardly wait! I need to just get away.

So, in preparation for the trip I am trying to find some new outfits to take with me. Ordinarily that wouldn't be a huge problem. But today, it just wasn't meant to be. All I want is to find a couple pair of shorts. How difficult could it be? I mean, swimsuits have been in the stores for about 3 or 4 weeks, so I should be able to find shorts, right? WRONG.

For starters, who can tell me the difference in Juniors, petite, girls, and misses clothing? Kohls has a different department for each of these sizes of clothing. I dont wear these sizes, but isnt it a bit of overkill??? 4 different departments for size 10 and below?

Anyway, I digress, on with my search. The people at Kohls acted like I was speaking Chinese when I asked them if they had any shorts in womens sizes. Apparently I am expecting way more than they can deliver at this time of year. Of course the mens department had many racks of new summer apparal out, (ie SHORTS!!!!)

I kept searching......Target didnt have them, Lane Bryant didnt have them, and neither did Walmart. I completely struck out. I did find some "knee length" shorts at Target, and when I tried them on they came all the way down below my KNEES!! I am 5'7" with a 34" inseam, and if they dont fit at my knee length, then folks, unless you top 6 feet tall, they wont come to your knees either.

Luckily, I found some tops in Tulsa when we were there (I told you how much I LOVE Tulsa) at Fashion Bug (YAY for Fashion Bug! I wish we had them here). I also bought a new swimsuit, so at least I will have that.

The search is still on.... maybe I should check out the mens dept!! LOLOLOL

We are home..

I drove over 2,000 mi in 5 days, I am exhausted and I would like to go on record as saying that the state of Kansas is no doubt the dullest state in the union to drive through. (I apologize to those of you who live in Kansas, but western Kansas is just ugly)

Due to the unusual number of farmers burning off their fields, and the unhealthy amount of allergens at my parents home in the swamps of Oklahoma, I am having horrible allergy problems and a cough that sounds like I have emphysema.

I am SO thankful for Tulsa. I have always LOVED Tulsa... My middle sister and I escaped on thursday to Woodland Hills mall for some quality air and shopping and then spent an hour or two at Will Rogers downs and the Cherokee casino for some quality gambling. we didnt win anything but had fun.

The funeral was beautiful, my mom would have been happy. Now if we could just get my bull headed father to realize that since he cannot walk out to get the mail or take the trash out, he probably cannot live alone in a 2 story house, things would be set.

I am anticipating another trip to Oklahoma in my near future....... sigh

I will be back tomorrow blog friends! Many thanks to everyone who sent sympathies via email and facebook, you guys are the best.
