I keep hearing all about this "baby sling" that is being recalled. I just saw a reporter telling us that the baby's face should never be covered when it is in the sling and the baby should not be lying on its side with its face pressed up against the side of the sling, etc etc etc....
Can I say something here? DUH.......!!!!!!
To begin with I would like to ask why mothers are strapping these infants around their necks to carry them? What happened with just carrying the baby in your arms? Are we carrying babies around like a hobo purse because then it leaves our hands free to drive the car, talk on the cell phone and drink fancy coffee?? PLEASE do not tell me that they are driving with their babies in these purses!!
While I am on the topic, what is up with the trend of completely redesigning the hot dog because it is a choking hazard? Children have been eating hot dogs for over 50 yrs the shape didnt matter when I was a child, WHY does it matter now? Is it possible that the parents/grandparents/caregivers of the children are not cutting the hot dog up to make it easier to eat and the kiddos are choking? OMG could it be???
And just now the NBC news announced that the makers of window blinds are trying to figure out how to design the blinds WITHOUT the pull cords. seriously? Seriously people??? children are hanging themselves on the window blinds...
OK. now I am going to sound like an old fogey and I am really not, but does anyone remember venetian blinds?? Our house was full of venetian blinds when I was growing up, not only were they sharp as razors, they had ..... OMG.... CORDS on them!!! I dont know one single kid that wrapped that cord around their neck and tried to hang themselves. We had enough sense to NOT mess with the cord. Of course, my mother watched me like a hawk. She knew where I was and what I was doing 24/7. She didnt own a cell phone, or a blackberry, and she didnt work out of the home. Is that the difference in what is going on today and what went on 50 years ago?
What are your thoughts???

Parent supervision and discipline have disappeared. He actually have to have a day here that the firefighters go around to tell people with pools how to secure them so children don't drown because we have about 50 kids a year that drown in swimming pools because they wander in on their own and fall in. When I was a kid we were not aloud to go near a body of water without an adult. We were watched and knew to obey and stay put.
