NEVER let a crackhead sing at a funeral.

This is one of my all time favorite youtube videos, It makes me laugh, and laugh and laugh. It is entitled "Never let a crackhead sing at a funeral". prepare yourself.

See what I mean? Someone needs to tell this poor guy that he cannot carry a tune in a bucket! LOL

Just a few tidbits of random stuff for today, Breanna is doing well post-op. She is able to lift her right arm above her head with assistance from the non operative arm. Her follow up doctors appointment is next week I think. She might even get out of the sling early, we will see.

My we
ird ass schedule ends on Monday (Thank you God) and hopefully I will be back in the blogging routine soon, I hate missing posting and reading blogs! I am thinking it is time for us to head back to Las Vegas, the prices are almost too good not to take advantage of them. $19 air fares and $35 hotel rooms are calling my name! Dana and I need to take a trip to have some fun....

Speaking of fun, who has superbowl party plans?? Not me, but Bre is having a non superbowl party. I hope Arizona wins.

Before I go, this picture is dedicated to all of my friends who are still getting tons of snow and ice...

Have a great weekend everyone, I am back to work tomorrow, (is it here already???).

Its just a mattress..

Not a computer or a new engine for one of our Escapes or a new leather pit group or a new 42" plasma TV. Just a mattress. But great googley moogley, they want as much money for it as any of the items listed above!

Dana and I went shopping for a new mattress this morning. Ours is 10 yrs old and killing my back. We had a price in mind, somewhere in the neighborhood of LESS than $500. I mean is that unrealistic? I guess it is.

The first store we shopped at had pillow top mattresses, memory foam topped mattresses, mattresses with air inside, mattresses fit for a king, and prices fit for a millionaire! $1700 for a queen size mattress with no bells and whistles? WHAT???

I am not a country bumpkin but I seriously do not understand why they are trying to charge an arm and a leg for a freaking mattress! If I want to pay two grand, I will buy a flipping sleep number bed, so I can jump up and down and never spill the glass of wine that neither Dana nor I plan to drink!

We finally found one, made by Serta, and after talking the salesman down (they have room to dicker on the price with you, how weird is that???) we bought it. It is now on the bed, and I am hoping it will be more comfortable than our old one. Which was freakishly thinner when we moved it out than it was 10 yrs ago, who would've thunk it? :-)

Its a Conspiracy! And other ramblings...

Dana got called for jury duty!! mwahahahaha..... I am just waiting for my jury duty notice and the entire family will have been called.

I think it might be a conspiracy.

I have had a long hard day today, (and an even longer week) so I am resorting to random ramblings for todays blog.

Breanna is recovering nicely from her surgery and returned to school today, she is becoming pretty proficient at using her left hand to get dressed and to do the normal every day college student things. Thanks to everyone for the good thoughts and prayers.

AND... since I have worked 84 hours in the last 8 days I am going to go and get some sleep.

Before I leave, is it just me or is anyone else annoyed at the fact that the TV shows choose the last week of January to put on re-runs????? Are they waiting until February sweeps to continue the shows??

An Update on Breanna

Bre had her shoulder surgery today. It took the better part of the day. We arrived at the surgery center at 9:30am and left at 3:30pm. Her surgery took almost 2 hours and she had some problems with the anesthesia making her nauseous so she got some extra anti nausea medicine.

Right now she is in her bed, watching her new Hi Def TV. So far so good!

Obsession..

Not the cologne (there is a cologne named "Obsession" isnt there?) no, not the cologne, the videos. There is a video maker on Youtube that Breanna has brought to my attention. Actually, I found him way back when I was talking about segways. Do you remember "Chimpanzee riding on a segway?". He made that video.

He must love animals because so many of his vids are about animals. This is a cute one:

And for you cat lovers:

This one is just too cute: enjoy!

I HATE this!!

I feel like I have been out of touch with the blogging world for 3 days! I HATE it!! My schedule at work is a mess and I have only had one day off at a time for the last week. Dont they know I want to be reading blogs and doing mundane things like laundry, cleaning and grocery shopping?

I am thinking that they dont care.

ANYWAY... I apologize to my blogger friends because I havent been able to read and comment on your blogs, I intend to catch up when I get 2 days off in a row, which might be next weekend if I am lucky.

We are getting ready for Breannas surgery on Tuesday, she is a little freaked out by it, I can sympathize with her, it is kind of a freak out situation if you arent used to doctors and hospitals. She will be fine though. She was doing fine until the pre-op moron at the surgery center called to make sure she picked up her paperwork to fill out "just in case she dies during the procedure"!! WTF???? You dont say that to a 21 yr old! I can hardly wait until we get the patient satisfaction survey! Good grief!!

Before I go, I want to remind all of you out there who have Wii's. Dont forget to use the safety strap! LOLOL Poor guy, love the plaid pajamas...

Juror 2820

Breanna has been called to Jury duty! This is the first time she has been called. I am cracking up, she isnt. She is supposed to appear on February 18, I can hardly wait to hear what kind of case it is.

Did I mention she isnt amused? LOLOLOL

One more thing regarding Bre, she was scheduled today for an arthroscopy on her shoulder next Tuesday, at 11:00a. For those of you who dont know, she was injured during warrior week while in the USAF, one of the cadre's (who has since been disciplined and lost his hat and his rank) decided to make the girls do pushups until they collapsed. She tore the labrum on her right shoulder.

I wonder if we can send him the bill???

Lost In Space...

I got an email a week or so ago, and it was challenging the recipients to name their favorite TV shows that they watched while growing up. It brought to mind some of the shows that I LOVED watching and couldnt miss.

I think my favorite show when I was in elementary school was "Lost In Space". Not nearly as sophisticated as the space shows on TV today, but it was the most amazing show we had ever seen. Imagine flying around the heavens in a space ship with a robot! And landing on different planets and running into beings that arent human! We all wished we had a robot who would swing his arms around and say "danger! danger! danger! Will Robinson!"...

Just sit back and take a look at the special effects, and the sophisticated costumes that made this show so amazing. Steven Spielberg eat your heart out!
Just one thing, isnt that the mom from Lassie on that space ship?

Some of my other favorite shows were:

The Andy Griffith Show

Gomer Pyle

My Favorite Martian

Bonanza.

What shows were your favorites when you were young?

Its a drug!

And I am living proof. I am addicted to chocolate. I go through this a couple of times a year. And after the Christmas deluge this year, I am addicted again. I tell myself that I will not eat chocolate every day. (I am talking about chocolate candy, not necessarily chocolate in general).

OK, I can do this. I am not even thinking about eating it, right? I watch TV and I read my email and start reading my blogs, then I get up to go in the kitchen and it hits! I MUST have some chocolate! And this is what I find:

I have to confess, they are my favorites. Its hard to pass them up. During the Christmas season this year though, I found these:

These are positively orgasmic. You have to be a really hard core chocoaholic to know what I mean, trust me on this one. My favorite flavor is the milk chocolate/peanut butter ones... OMG.

So, I have this issue that neads dealt with. Does anyone know if there is a 12 step program out there to help with chocolate detox?
Have you noticed how I am completely sidestepping the topic of the Presidential Inauguration? I thought I did quite well.. I am trying very hard to keep politics away from my blog. So, TTFN!

Inner Peace

If you can start the day without caffeine,

If you can get going without pep pills,

If you can always be cheerful, ignoring aches and pains,

If you can resist complaining and boring people with your troubles,

If you can eat the same foods everyday and be grateful for it,

If you can understand when your loved ones are too busy to give you any time,

If you can take criticism and blame without resentment,

If you can resist treating a rich friend better than a poor friend,

If you can conquer tension without medical help,

If you can relax without liquor,

If you can sleep without the aid of drugs,

Then You Are Probably The Family Dog!

I love this dont you?? I just want to finish by saying a prayer. Dear Lord please let me be just half the person my dogs think I am... amen

New Look and a special day.

Boy, somedays I really think I have a brain tumor or something (just kidding) I wrote a new blog for today, and then I promptly went down and posted it for TOMORROW!!

You know, menopause sucks. I do all kinds of weird things that I am embarassed to say I cant explain. Just ask Dana, I forget what I had for dinner yesterday. ANYWAY.. I think I have found the new blog template that I want for a while. I like looking at it. :-) I like the blinking stars!!

Before I forget, I want to wish Michelle at Shays Mom a very happy birthday. Do me a favor and drop by and say hi to Michelle. She snuck this birthday in on us!

One more thing, Max is guest blogger at Danas blog today Do We Really Need Another Blog . Max is convinced it is the beginning of his new career. We will see.

Weight Loss!! GRRRRRRR!

The experts say "eat right, exercise, burn more calories than you take in, and you will lose weight". They lie.

Let me start by saying that I absolutely HATE dieting. I HATE trying to lose weight. Lord knows I have been on the weight loss roller coaster since I was age 14. Sometimes I just want to say ENOUGH ALREADY! Sometimes I just want to accept the weight where I am now, and go on with my life.

Then I look in the mirror.

Even though I have lost a large amount of weight in the last 4 yrs, its not enough. Back in 2004 I found the secret, I launched my umpteenth journey on weight watchers and for some reason, unknown to me, I began to lose weight! And I continued to lose weight, and stayed on program for almost a year! I dropped 85lbs and it was amazing. THEN... I lost interest. And I began to not think about staying on program with every single bite of food that I put into my mouth, and I gained some back. Over the last 3 years I have gained 25lbs, not a bad gain, I guess but a gain nonetheless.

Now I am trying to lose that 25lbs AGAIN, and 25 more. Then I will be happy. Hell, even if I lose 35lbs I will be happy. I just have to get there.

I have realized that I need motivation. I need to dig down and find that mysterious secret that allowed me to have discipline and to drop the weight. I need a "Barbie". I found this video on youtube and I am pretty sure I have to find these books! AND.... I also have to find my own "Barbie". Hmmmm I wonder how much Jillian Michaels of "The Biggest Loser" charges. LOLOLOL

I HAVE to do this! So, at the risk of embarrassing myself to the fullest extent I am about to post before and after pictures. It will also remind me that I need to dig in and get rid of these pounds!

This is me before losing the weight. EEK! I was this weight for probably 20 years. scary.

And this is me after losing the weight.

I dont have a new pic of me now, but just add 25lbs to the "after" pic.

And so, I plug along.. counting points. :-( Where is my "Barbie"????

I have been interviewed!

This is so fun! Lisa at Lifeafter has interviewed me, via the net. And the results are as follows:

1. Who was your high school best friend, and what made her your best friend ?

My best friends name was Liz. She lived about 3 blocks from me and we were inseperable. I dont even remember when we started hanging out together, it was like we were always friends. we were both on the speech team, I was a debater and she did most everything else. And we were in theatre. I was in sports and drill team from grades 8-11 and my senior year, I spent having fun. Liz was there with me every step of the way. We even spent lots of days skiing in Aspen and hob nobbing with the rich and famous!

2. What made you decide to be a nurse?
I dont know if I have ever told anyone this. so here goes...When Bre was born, I had to make some decisions. I was in an abusive marriage to an obnoxious jerk. My job was a medical office manager. One day I came home from work when Bre was 5 months old and I watched him through the window as he was screaming at her to stop crying and he threw her down on a pillow that was on the floor. At that minute I knew I had to figure out some way to get away from him. I researched and found out that nurses made good money and I was familiar with medical terminology and physicians. so I made myself a promise that I would move back closer to my family, go to nursing school and get rid of him. And I did.

3. Did you ever consider a different name for Breanna, or was that the perfect one and only?
I wanted her name to be Tiffany, because that was such a cool name back then, and one of my best friends then named her baby Tiffany, so I decided to change it. Her dad wanted her named Betty after his mother. ICK!! I was the one who filled out the birth certificate! LOL

4. What is YOUR favorite food?
cheese. I am a cheesaholic. My favorte type of food is Mexican. Fajitas Texanas with cheese of course. My trigger foods are donuts and ice cream. I love lots of foods. :-)

5. Now you get three wishes from The Genie. What are they?
1. I wish that our troops could come home from Iraq and Afghanistan
2. I wish that Breanna gets back in the USAF as a commissioned officer.
3. I wish for good health for Dana, Bre and I.

If you are interested in being interviewed here is what you need to do:

1. Leave me a comment saying, "Interview me." 1. Leave me a comment saying, "Interview me."

2. For the first five who say "Interview me",I will respond by emailing you five questions. (I get to pick thequestions).

3. You will update your blog with the answers to the questions.

4. You will include this explanation and an offer to interviewsomeone else in the same post.

5. When others comment asking to be interviewed, you will ask them five questions.

California Dreamin....

Or dreaming of the Florida keys, or Hawaii or the Caribbean, it doesnt matter. I am dreaming of anywhere with the ocean, and sand and sunshine and warm weather.

I am usually a winter person. I love snow and skiing and watching it snow. I even like colder temperatures but about half way through the winter I get tired of it. Not nearly as tired as some of you, I am sure.

I do love remembering our visits to the ocean, and watching the water, listening to the surf and the smelling the scents that only being on the beach can summons..

Dana and I are going to attempt to use our time share time in another location this year. Maybe Mexico. Not yet sure, I guess we had better start planning huh?

Sit back, enjoy the new layout and listen to my new music player. And think about the beach...

As Seen On TV.. A product review...

Some of you may know this already, but I have recently discovered that I am an "As Seen On TV" addict. Its one of those personal traits that is hard to recognize until I met another As Seen On TV addict (whose identity will remain anonymous, she knows who she is. ;-) ).

I am ridiculously intrigued by the items that talk to me in their commercials. I have even discovered a store in Park Meadows Mall in Aurora, perfectly named "The As Seen On TV Store" inside you can find ASOTV heaven. The walls are lined with items seen on TV, it is awesome!
Anyway, we have purchased a couple of real gems as seen on TV and I would like to do a product review on them.

First, my absolute favorite- the "Debbie Meyer Green Bags". These babies are amazing!! They keep your produce and vegetables fresh longer than any other storage system tha I have ever seen. I have kept bananas out on the kitchen counter (nestled in their green bag) for 12 days and we still ate them! I also put a head of lettuce in the refrigerator (in its green bag) 14 days ago and it is still crisp!!! I dont know her secret but I am sure glad she found it. 5 stars *****

My second favorite ASOTV item is my GT Xpress 101. It is an amazing little gadget that cooks in little wells. you mix up the stuff, pour it in and shut the lid. thats it! What sold me on this product was its ability to make corn dogs, cakes, and breakfast sandwiches to go... I give it 5 stars! *****

The third item that we have is a Pedi Paws. The Pedi paws is a tool that you use to trim your dogs nails. Max has very thick nails and it is difficult to fit them into the standard nail trimmer so we bought this to try out. It works like a charm! The one thing I like about this trimmer is that it smoothes the tips of the nails off and they dont seem to grow out as fast. And they dont snag. 4 stars! (the dog has to get used to the sound) ****

I am keeping my eye on the "pasta n more" and the "Smartlidz". Has anyone ever tried them?

Oh by the way, I also have used the space bags and I have a ped egg. ;-) I told you I was addicted!!

I have been tagged!

My friend Lisa at My New Thing To Do has tagged me with a cool tag. I am supposed to go to my pictures folder, to the fourth folder, open it and select the fourth photo, post it and tell about it. So here I go....

AHA! One of my favorite places on earth, LAS VEGAS BABY!!! Dana, Bre and I took a trip to LV in April of 2008. Neither Dana nor Breanna had ever been there, and we had a ball. In fact we had so much fun that I am ready to go back! We stayed here, at the Circus Circus, I wasnt sure how we would like it since it is pretty family oriented but it was fun. We gambled until our hearts content, and didnt lose too much. The food was amazing, the weather was amazing and casinos were amazing.

Can you see all of the construction in the background? I am anxious to see the new City Center when it opens, and all of the other new casinos.

To complete the tag, I have to tag 4 more people to see what they have hanging out in their photo folders.

1. Mary Ellen at Adopting M.E.

2. Laura at Silence is Broken

3. AM at Airman Mom

4. Rita at Simply Me

Here are the rules:

Go to the fourth folder on your computer where you store photos

Select your fourth picture (no exceptions)

Post the picture with a story and a link to the person who tagged you

Tag 4 people to do the same.

And have fun!!!

Did you see that moon?

I cant believe I havent posted on my blog in 2 days. I apologize, the weekend almost killed me.

This weekend on Saturday Jan 10 we celebrated the "Full Wolf Moon". Native americans have named various moon phases and the Full Wolf Moons name came from the following belief:

" Amid the zero cold and deep snows of midwinter, the wolf packs howled hungrily outside Indian villages. It was also known as the Old Moon or the moon after Yule. In some tribes this was the Full Snow Moon; most applied that name to the next moon. The moon will also be at perigee (its closest point to Earth) on this day, at 6:00 a.m. EST, at a distance of 222,138mi. (357,497 km.) from Earth. Very high ocean tides can be expected from the coincidence of perigee with full moon.

It was the biggest moon that I have ever seen. The night sky was full of different shades of darker blues, it was very eerie.

Weird things happen under a moon like this. Enjoy this photo of the moon over monument valley. I can only imagine what the native Anasazi's thought when they were able to go outside at midnight and it was light out...

Back tomorrow with more!

People never cease to amaze me...

Oh my, it is a full moon outside. When the moon gets full, the ER becomes very interesting. Did I say interesting?? Unusual is more like it.

Today was no exception. I cannot divulge too much information about the day, (HIPAA laws you know) but see the graphic below:

And one other suggestion, just for the record, if you are trying to get narcotics from an emergency room. DONT come in using one name a week after you were seen in the same ER using a different name.... duhhhhhh

Fail Blog!

One of Bre's favorite websites is "Fail Blog". What they do at fail blog, is to find videos of things gone horribly wrong. Or signs spelled wrong, or things screwed up.

This is a video of US Marines attempting to train Iraqi Army soldiers how to do jumping jacks. Definately a fail...

And they call this the "Wunder Boner"?? I think we all need one!

And one more thing.... a Fail sign.

If you want to check out this site, go to www.failblog.org. Enjoy!

Torture!

Pure unadulterated TORTURE! Thats what it is!

I started back on Weight Watchers today, and everywhere I look someone is advertising food. I learned today that Wendys now has a double cheeseburger for 99cents, I learned that our local McDonalds now has the "McRib" sandwich, Paula Dean is tempting me with Georgia peach cobbler, and my new obsession on the travel channel "Man vs Food" is coming to me straight from "Juan in a Million" restaurant in Austin, TX, where he is taking part in a taco eating challenge. Now I have to tell you that I LOVE mexican food! ALL kinds of mexican food... my mouth is watering as I watch Adam Richman pig out and never gain an ounce!

It is a conspiracy! You probably think all I have done is sit and watch tv, not so! I have been cleaning, and in and out of the house today. These food shows, food billboards and advertisements are haunting me!

OMG IHOP has just started an all you can eat pancake special! ARGGGGG.....
Before I forget, please send prayers to my dad, who fell yesterday and broke his hip. He and my mom live in Oklahoma and he had surgery today. So far, so good. He will be 87 next week..

We Is a Blogging Family! And Random ramblings...

I dont have a particular topic for the blog today, I havent had any good ideas, even when I am sitting at the "Ideas Table", so I am just going to punt....

Speaking of blogs....

Dana is loving his blog,
Do we really need another blog? Breanna posts on hers every now and then.. Air Force Miracles (even though she needs to post way way more often.) And I love my blog. Frankie says he is a coming of age doxie and he is sure he needs a blog. I say no, we will see what happens. LOL

Western Colorado is cold and grey today, our temps were down to 0 this morning. thats ZERO, like less than one! TOTALLY FREAKING COLD! It was -4 yesterday! I thought my fingers were going to freeze off, and I was wearing my brand new ski gloves too.. I think its time to dig out the winter hats. It also snowed last night, not much. Not nearly as much as other states are getting, but it was a slippery drive home. We have a huge number of people who move here in the summer from very flat states, that are not used to snow. And when they decide to get out on the roads during a snowstorm, they panic. It can be very scary!!

Tonight is my first night back to weight watchers, Christmas and the holidays have done a number on me. But I am going back and I will keep trying. Why does weight loss have to be so hard when weight gain was so easy???

Have you guys made any New Years Resolutions? I have not. I dont like resolutions of any kind. I can do goals as long as they are achievable but to set myself up for failure with a resolution that I am not completely behind is not my thing.

So, no resolutions for me. I want to leave you all with a video of one of my favorite songs and performers. Israel Kamakawiwo Ole' singing "Somewhere over the rainbow". Enjoy the slides and for those of you who do not live in Florida or Hawaii, pretend that the cold and grey skies and snow and ice are gone....

Monday, January 5, 2009

Something tells me....

That this area where this video was taken is not used to snow and ice....

That when you see other people fall, you CANNOT help but laugh...

You just cant cure STUPID.....

The Masses Have Spoken!

Get rid of the baby poop green they said! Get more bling they said! Too mundane? Too blah? The green marble is OUT!

And the Black and purple is IN! How do you like it? LOL I think its me, bordering on abnormal and eye catching! I will keep it for a while unless you guys think its too hard to read.. please let me know if it is.

One more topic for today. I was watching a commercial about a new movie coming out and the challenge was put forth, "tell us about your 1st love, and did it last?". This got me thinking, and I came to an abrupt realization. So, time to bare the old soul here.

My first love...... I have had many "crushes" over the years, I had a huge crush on a guy who used to work at the ski area where I skiied. He was about 5 yrs older than me and he gave me lots of attention, I wont go into more detail than that ...then I moved on to a very good friend of mine. We dated for about a year off and on, I was a Freshman in college, he was senior in high school, but we had such a history as good friends that love never developed. Then came my ex, no freaking way was I in love with him. I was lonely and he was there. The rest was a horrible horrible history...

I guess I also have to consider Kurt Russell as a crush, its too bad he doesnt know I exist. ;-)

This brings me to my 1st love.... Dana. When I met Dana I realized that this was love, and it was good, and if someone had told me that love was supposed to be like this (100% effort from both sides, respect, consideration, caring, not ridiculing the other person, not arguing, not screaming, etc. I could go on and on) then I would have been divorced much much earlier!!!

Now its your turn, tell us about your 1st love... IF you dare

Is this it?

I have been trying to find a new background for my blog. If you have checked in here more than once today you have probably seen more than one background as I have tried several layouts to see which one I like best.

This may be it. Or it may not. I am not the worlds most astute decorator, in fact I do not have any sense of style whatsoever. I just find something that is more soothing to my eyes and thats what I pick.

So, yay or nay? You be the judge.

"Plastic Island" you arent going to believe this!

According to the online San Francisco Chronicle,

"The so-called Great Pacific Garbage Patch, a stewy body of plastic and marine debris that floats an estimated 1,000 miles west of San Francisco, is a shape-shifting mass far too large, delicate and remote to ever be cleaned up, according to a researcher who recently returned from the area.

But that might not stop the federal government from trying.
Charles Moore, the marine researcher at the Algalita Marina Research Foundation in Long Beach who has been studying and publicizing the patch for the past 10 years, said the debris - which he estimates weighs 3 millio
n tons and covers an area twice the size of Texas - is made up mostly of fine plastic chips and is impossible to skim out of the ocean.

"Any attempt to remove that much plastic from the oceans - it boggles the mind," Moore said from Hawaii, where his crew is docked. "There's just too much, and the ocean is just too big."
The trash collects in one area, known as the North Pacific Gyre, due to a clockwise trade wind that circulates along the Pacific Rim. It accumulates the same way bubbles gather at the center of hot tub, Moore said.

A two-liter plastic bottle that begins its voyage from a storm drain in San Francisco will get pulled into the gyre and take weeks to reach its place among the other debris in the Garbage Patch.
While the bottle floats along, instead of biodegrading, it will "photodegrade," Moore said - the sun's UV rays will turn the bottle brittle, much like they would crack the vinyl on a car roof. They will break down the bottle into small pieces and, in some cases, into particles as fine as dust.

The Garbage Patch is not a solid island, as some people believe, Moore said. Instead, it resembles a soupy mass, interspersed with large pieces of junk such as derelict fishing nets and waterlogged tires - "an alphabet soup," he called it.
Also, it's undetectable by overhead satellite photos because it's 80 percent plastic and therefore translucent, Moore added. The plastic moves just beneath the surface, from one inch to depths of 300 feet, according to samples he collected on the most recent trip, he said.
By Moore's estimation, the "floating landfill" is also simply too far from land to conduct any meaningful cleanup operation. It's about 1,000 miles west of California and 1,000 miles north of the Hawaiian Islands - a week's journey by boat from the nearest port. It swirls in a convergence zone located about 30 to 40 degrees north latitude and 135 to 145 west longitude."

Is this freaky or what?? so, this "island" of plastic debris that has washed into the Pacific, is now floating around and gathering strength and mass. Doesnt this sound like a b-class horror movie? freaky....Here are some pics. Anyone up for an island vacation???
