Its Knowing What NOT to Say

A salute to Navy moms everywhere...

It's Knowing What NOT to Say

So many times and many ways
I have heard it all before
"Why are you so upset???
It's not like he's going off to war.

The friends that I have had
Or thought so it seemed
Behind my back it would be said
"She is such a Drama Queen"

"She should cut the cord already,
He's a man" I've heard them say
But none of them know the ache
Your heart feels every day

When my Sailor is deployed
There is a part of me that's missing
I dread the many months ahead
And long to hug and kiss him

Don't tell me "It's just like college"
Because it's not in any way
You can call or see your kid
College is a phone call away

My baby will be out to sea
For weeks and months at a time
Until he calls from a foreign land
I won't know for sure he's fine

Please don't say "Oh he'll be safe"
Because "He's just in the NAVY"
"If your son was a Marine
Only then would he know bravery"

My Sailor is now underway and
The seas they can be rough
He is out there fighting drug dealers
The NAVY is just as tough

Only a fellow NAVY MOM knows
This hurt when I say good-bye
It is knowing what NOT to say
And the hugs that will get me by.....

Awwww Tonjia that's beautiful and so true. I did the college thing with David and it's a picnic compared to thinking about this!

I'm on month 7 of hoping David changes his mind. Still praying for a Divine Intervention :)

Good post!
