I was watching a movie this morning and it made me do some thinking about the changes that have occured over my lifetime.. I went through childhood and adolescence in the 60's and 70's and it is just incredible to me how things have changed over the last 30 or 40 years.
Here are some things that have changed or become obsolete in my lifetime, do you remember any of these:
1. tetherball
2. badminton
3. drive in movies
4. drive up A&W restaurants
5. typewriters
6. croquet
7. shorthand
8. pepsi in glass bottles
9. dial telephones
10. party lines
11. "Tab" soda
12. little wax bottles candy filled with cool aid
13. 7-up candy bars
14. cherry mash candy bars
15. Idaho spud candy bars
16. cars with no seat belts
17. The Lone Ranger
18. Leave it to Beaver
19. Roy Rogers
20. Johnny West and Jane West dolls
and some memories of how we lived:
1. high school homecoming, everyone turned out for the parade. downtown businesses would
close and we would all eat barbeque served by the Lions club.
2. 4th of July celebration held at the town park
3. "dragging" North Avenue (our local "main drag") from one end to the other, over and over
and over. Maybe pulling over to talk with friends.
4. girls afraid of a "bad reputation", boys afraid of the draft
5. boys and girls afraid of the wrath of their parents for staying out after curfew.
6. boys and girls having a curfew
7. fixing up your older brother or sisters clunker car to drive as your own
8. watching the horrors of viet nam on a black and white tv
9. watching man walk on the moon
10. watching the horror of JFK and RFK and Martin Luther King being asassinated
11. seeing The Wizard of Oz in color for the first time
12. playing outside in the summer until your mom calls you in to go to bed
13. trading in old pop bottles for change
14. wishing upon a star
15. families attending church together
I know every generation looks back on "simpler times" and wonders what happened. I am obviously aging myself, and in this world of computers, playstations, Xbox'es, Wii's, cell phones and space age technology I wonder how we have changed so much....... And of what is in the future for our children and grandchildren.

Hi Tonjia,
I remember all of those things. I am 49 so we must be close in age. I loved reading this, it brought back how fun it was to live during that time. It is sad that alot of kids these days don't know anything about being creative and enjoying how to have fun in the simpleist of ways like we did.
I read all your posts and your blog is a pure JOY! I am very proud of your daughter serving our country. God Bless Her and God Bless America! I am going to put you link on my favorites. I know I will enjoy coming to visit you on a regular basis. :-)
Hugs,
Kimmie
thanks Kimmie! I am 50, so are in the same club! LOLOL
Ahhhh the good old days! Yes, I remember most of those things! I wonder how our kids will look back and what they will think? Gosh...
Off to the treadmill and some more cleaning! :)
