Why does the US Government have so much red tape? In this time of technological advancements there is still a HUGE amount of red tape to get anything done.
Today, we are filling out Breannas FAFSA online form to see if she will qualify for financial aid if she goes to college in the fall. The application process is very automated, and works pretty much entirely off of her W2 income tax forms.. easy, right? WRONG.
Prior to filling out the application, she applied for a PIN number. This number is an electronic signature and can be used throughout her entire college career for financial aid. Good theory. Application went through and they are supposed to send confirmation to her email address pretty much immediately. It didnt come.
Bre had to go to work, so I am monitoring her email account thinking. it will probably be here any time. That was 5 hours ago. So, I called the "help" line, and posing as Bre told them that I didnt get confirmation of my PIN, they looked it up and said "there is nothing on file, go ahead and resubmit the application". So, I did..... guess what?? It tells me "there is already a PIN number on file for you, you cannot request another number". WHAT??? WHERE???
Hmmmmm, so I go to check status on her PIN, and .... you guessed it, they say "information does not match any files in our database, please resubmit for another PIN number".. ARGGGGGGGGG
The FAFSA application cannot go through without this number. And the deadline is Monday.
Why did I think this was going to be easy???
On a lighter note, we stopped by the Navy recruiter today, and I point blank asked him what his gut feeling was about Bre's chances of getting in. He said he felt good about it and he could not see any reason why the Navy would not let her in. Is he blowing smoke? I dont think so, but he doesnt have the final say. Her waiver is now at the Naval Headquarters in TN, awaiting approval, so we just have to wait.
Please keep all fingers and toes crossed that the waiver goes through, the summer is almost half over!!!

let me tell you about my expeiences with compiters, pin numbers...do you remember odessy 2000, and when dave bowman was outside the shuttle and wanted to get back in the spaceship and HAL THE COMPUTER said"i don't think so dave' well i don't think so, debbie...you have to be patient, ultra organized, and a little bit weird to get computers to do what you want

Okay, first of all, I should have warned you about the PIIN number, but I forgot about that! I had the same problem, but it's been so many years I don't remember how it was rectified. Hope you get it fixed soon!!!!!
I doubt he was blowing smoke up the ying yang, cause if didn't think she was going to get in, or a chance, he probably would have been blunt so you don't have to keep wasting time!!!
This is a good sign! The pin# isn't working, he said he doesn't see a problem!! Everything might just start falling together now!!!
I'll keep my fingers crossed and say a prayer!!

It sounds like she is a shoe in for the Navy. Tell her I said good luck. Also sorry it took my so long to get to your tag, we have been getting a lot of patients and I haven't had as much free time. Thank you so much that was a lot of fun.
The good ol US Government at it's best! Hope you don't get too many gray hairs over it. :-)

I went thru the same thing with FAFSA, but it was a long time ago and I can't remember. I do remember how frustrating it was!!
