Its just a mattress..

Not a computer or a new engine for one of our Escapes or a new leather pit group or a new 42" plasma TV. Just a mattress. But great googley moogley, they want as much money for it as any of the items listed above!

Dana and I went shopping for a new mattress this morning. Ours is 10 yrs old and killing my back. We had a price in mind, somewhere in the neighborhood of LESS than $500. I mean is that unrealistic? I guess it is.

The first store we shopped at had pillow top mattresses, memory foam topped mattresses, mattresses with air inside, mattresses fit for a king, and prices fit for a millionaire! $1700 for a queen size mattress with no bells and whistles? WHAT???

I am not a country bumpkin but I seriously do not understand why they are trying to charge an arm and a leg for a freaking mattress! If I want to pay two grand, I will buy a flipping sleep number bed, so I can jump up and down and never spill the glass of wine that neither Dana nor I plan to drink!

We finally found one, made by Serta, and after talking the salesman down (they have room to dicker on the price with you, how weird is that???) we bought it. It is now on the bed, and I am hoping it will be more comfortable than our old one. Which was freakishly thinner when we moved it out than it was 10 yrs ago, who would've thunk it? :-)

They always say you can't put a price on good sleep, but holy shit! I can't pay those prices. I can not understand why these mattresses cost so much. Thank goodness our pillow top was included with our bedoroom set because if I had to pay it's real price on top of the furniture, heads would have rolled all over that plushy mattress.

Let us know how you sleep!

Oh and I blogged today, halleluiah!

Well let me know how it sleeps. We bought a brand called Lady Americana made here in Oklahoma by the Mathis Brothers. We have loved it. I think it was $700 for a king, with memory foam or something, making it a pretty thick mattress. Meaning you have to have deep pocketed sheets to fit it.!!! Good grief. If not one thing it is 100 others.
