How Times Have Changed..

Yesterday, we went to Borders for a few hours. I just love going there, sitting and reading for a while. It is very relaxing to me, Dana browses the books and enjoys spending time there too. It is a really fun way to pass the time once in a while. Bre was with us and she did some shopping, so we all had a good time.

Anyway, we had the opportunity to stop by yesterday. I got a book and went to the cafe to have a seat, (it was somewhere around 2:00pm and we thought it wouldnt be busy) and lo and behold, what did I see??? 10 men scattered throughout the cafe and only ONE woman! This struck me as incredibly weird, since it was afternoon and all but one of these men were in the age group that should be out working. IN FACT.... at a table there were 6 construction guys, sitting there in their construction worker outfits, sipping Latte`s and munching on pastries..

When did times change? The only woman in the entire cafe (not including me) was an elderly woman who was reading magazines.

Has the womens movement gone so far that the women are now out working and the men are now staying at home? (or in this case, spending the afternoon perusing hunting and motorcycle magazines in the Borders cafe???)

It just makes me go hmmmmm.. No one else would probably notice this but I was a Sociology minor in college and the tendency to observe mores of society has stuck with me all of these years..

I am wondering if we as a group should rethink this womens lib thing. LOLOLOL ;-)

We've got the men so confused, they don't know what to do, say or how to act. I long for the good old days when men were men and we women stayed at home and raised the kids!

I agree...is weird!

they were just taking a BREAK....they get three in the morning, 4 in the afternoon before they get off at 3, the end of their shift

I agree with Putz. I work with all males and they take so many breaks its not even funny. I rarely leave my desk. Its crazy!

Oh how I agree with the days of yesteryears. I don't want women to be treated poorly, but we were designed to take care of things, the children, the home, and sometimes ourselves. I love staying home, after retiring from a man's job. I am glad to be here.

I have never been for womens lib. I like bras and I don't want to change my own tire if I get a flat!

Oh yeah, I just had to chime in on this one. Ya know what bugs me? And okay, I admit it...this is going to sound terribly "sexist." And maybe it is, but I don't care. It's still the way I feel. At work, the guys I see doing the same type of job I do, for the same paltry amount of money that I make? I could just never, ever take one of them "seriously." I liked it that my husband had a MANLY-MAN job. I couldn't even get excited over any of the "suits", which is how several of us refer to the Grand Poobahs at work--you know, upper management. Yuck. Does any of this make sense? BWAHAHA!

With my marriage, if anybody was gonna be hanging out at Border's in the middle of the day, it was gonna be me. :)

I have to say I am not surprised. I know four couples, my in-laws included, of whom the woman works and the men do nothing. Some of them are stay at home dads but some are not. I am not sure how I feel about that...
