We are overrun with drama at work. I HATE workplace drama!! "She said, she did, he wont......" etc etc.
And I have the pleasure of working for a micromanager. When one is dealing with type A personality nurses, micromanagement just doesnt work. This just compounds the frustration and anger of my coworkers, and me.
So the friction in the dept is high, nit picking with each other is high, I just want to scream!!!!
I may have some changes coming up in the future, my doctor has recommended that I get off of night shift if I can, (and I would love to) so I am attempting to maneuver my way onto day shift. The plus side would be that I can get my diabetes under control, and it will definately help with my Weight Watchers, and overall health. The down side.... a $5.50/hr cut in pay. hmmm what to do, what to do? Sometimes feeling good is better than having extra cash, right?
Someone please tell me I am right!
I will keep you all updated on what happens, maybe this will be a good thing....

I am here to tell you that you are right. Really! Several years ago, I willingly went down four pay levels in order to get a less stressful job and save my sanity. It wasn't quite a 5.50/hr paycut, but pretty close. It ended up not being as bad as I thought it was going to be. If at all possible, plan for it. Here's the bottom line, though--I was NEVER sorry I did it! It was a TERRIFIC thing, and then I eventually did end up going up a few levels again...but still without the stress. So, there ya go! :)
tonjia...my prayers will be with you as you enter this crossroads.
My pregnant daughter is an ob-gyn nurse working nights... She often describes herself as "cranky"..is it hormones or is it night-shift?
Perhaps one day she will know day-shift..

you are 300% correct I did nights diabeties out of control, a holes abound... switch to days everything changed... it was so worth the pay cut!
Yes, your health is by far more important. But keep in mind, taking that kind of cut can also add to your stress if the budget is too tight. So look things over closely before you make your decision and feel good about it before making any permanent changes. I think I figured that it would be less than $900 a month drop in pay, that sounds like worth the change to me. If things are too tight, maybe pick up one extra shift a month at the hospital to help out. Good luck on your decision. That is one of the hardest choices to make.
Good luck with the shift change! The money difference does hurt. I'm a night shifter but I LOVE night shift and I'm a night person anyway, so it works for me.
You can work around the money issues, your health is something you need to take care of. I would make the change, as long as the less money doesn't stress you out so much your health would suffer for it. Then the change would be kinda pointless.
