Sunday, October 19, 2008 marked the day when the 208 members of the 45th Infantry Brigade of the Oklahoma National Guard returned HOME from Iraq. They have been deployed for one year. Amazing. These soldiers were gone from their loved ones for an entire year, fighting for our freedom, while life at home moved on. Babies were born, loved ones passed on, holidays came and went. And they continued to fight. And not once did they falter. Because, they are soldiers....
This is patriotism. It is dedication to a cause, it is taking on the responsibility of accepting a job and seeing it through. THIS is what our focus should be on today, not politics, not who can sling the most mud at whom, not who associated with who at age 8. I feel like we have lost focus people. Lets remember all of our soldiers, our sons, daughters, husbands, and wives, who are still in Iraq and Afghanistan, who have endured massive heat, blinding sandstorms, and the virtual unknown, the nighttime attacks, the IED's, suicide bombs, etc.
Please bow your head today and say a prayer to your God that this war can come to an end soon, and bring these brave men and women home....

God Bless them and bring them home safe. My brother in law is over there until February. Not a day goes by I don't wake up and fear what I may learn that day. I go to sleep knwoing we are one day closer to getting him back home.
We had footage of the OK happy homecoming yesterday. It was my favorite story of the day.
VP, thanks for carrying that footage. I heard it on my XM and had to go to the Tulsa paper to find the article.

Tonjia-
Thanks for recognizing the OK National Guard unit-they certainly deserve the recognition. They as all our soldiers serving don't receive accolades they should (not that they ever ask for them).
Praying for all the military to stay safe and come home-thanks for sharing.

This brought tears to my eyes, Tonjia...Amen! It is so true, we need to keep our priorities straight and stay focused on what so many are doing for us. THEY are the important ones...
God bless them and their families. Thanks so much for sharing this. Your post was spot on!
My nephew and several co-workers from the Enid Police Dept were amoung those men and women you speak of. My nephew was soooo glad to be home. The heat was horrible, the sand storms horrible, but he did tell me....the people were so thankful, he felt good about being there and doing the job that he did. I asked if he would let me take pictures of him to send out "I am HOME" announcements and he said yes I could. I asked if it would be in or out of uniform. He said out please Aunt Lisa, I am a little tired of wearing it. I said no problem...then jokingly said do you want to hang it on a hanger and light a match to it?? He looked at me and said..NO, I am very proud to have been there, but just a little tired of ALWAYS wearing it. He said he has no regrets, he is very proud of what they are doing, and we should go home only and ONLY after the job is ALL done. Made me ashamed to have made a joke. I want our family home too, but I agree with Will, it has to be only after the job we started is DONE. Welcome Home William McAllister, Welcome home.
our 145th bat squdren just came home also...thank god for them all....and we don't want this to be a hundred year war do we?????but i am also gainst doubling our foreign aid like o wants to do....what is a fellow to do
