We are still an Air Force family. I thought things would change with time. It hasnt. Is that the way it works?
Once you have realized that this decision is what makes your offspring happy as you hear her talk about her future serving our country, Once you have seen her jump through the hoops, once you have lived through the pain and sadness of seeing your only child depart on a bus to BMT, and leaving home for the first time? Once you have watched the mailbox for some signs of communication from Lackland? (whether it is a letter or just an envelope in her handwriting with graduation instructions inside). Once you have felt your heart and your stomach drop when you are told that she is injured, Once you have seen her strong will work to defy all of the obstacles that are created trying to make her come home, Once you get the word that she has been discharged??
I am no longer mad at the USAF.
Its ok God, I understand, the enlistment path wasnt in your plan for her. You would rather have her go in as an officer. I get it.
Breannas RE code is due to expire in 4 months. This should open the door for her to re-enter the USAF down the road. Her plan is to get her bachelors degree, and then commission back into the Air Force. The recruiter here is advising her to do this, she is still a model soldier. And in my heart of hearts I know she will be a model officer.
I have run the stages of grief, she has run the stages of grief and even though we have accepted what happened, we still have Air Force Blue blood running in our veins, we are STILL an Air Force family.
As many of the AF moms on our online support group used to say "once and Air Force mom, always an Air Force mom". I guess that is true.
Please pray for us.

I am holding only the best for you.
tonjia...So much of what happens in our lives is not for our understanding. Your daughter has been, is today and always will be a blessing in your life. The United States Air Force is a part of her, thus it is a part of you. It just works out that way. I am pleased you have worked through your grief, leaves room in your heart for other things.
I'll continue praying for you and your family!
~AirmanMom returning to her blog...
this process of life.....enough time to do it all....backdoor approach to the airforce...my army brat experience was th most i could have wanted...see foreign coutries without the muster calls and such
Wow...you might have come to that realization but to post it...well, I am so darned proud of you I just don't know what to do with myself. There is a plan for Bre and we will see it play out someday soon. There's worse things than being an officer in the military(speaking like a proud 2nd Lt. Mom lol). Michael thought medical school was for him and after getting his EMT he realized that it was a tough row to hoe and he needed to change directions. I fought tooth and nail against him going into ROTC and finally said, "I keep saying, Why him? and really, Why NOT him?" and gave him my blessing. As long as Bre is walking in God's path, He does have a special place for her. It's tough being a mom and see your children go through Life 101 and all the struggles along the way. I personally think that Bre is blessed to have you for a Mom and she knows that no matter how her life pans out, you are with her all the way. Take a bow, Bre's Mom, you've done good! I will be keeping this dynamic mother-daughter duo(that would be you and Bre) in my prayers as she continues her journey.
You have never been to The Melting Pot? You have got to go if you get the chance. It is a little pricey but worth the experience. It is all Fondue. The first course is the Cheese. You pick what flavor and then you get things to dip. Breads, veggies, apples. Then the main course. Same thing, you pick your base and your entree. We always get a combo of steak, chicken, salmon and shrimp. You also get a bunch of veggies to put in the pot. And last, but not least, is the desert. Chocolate and dippers brownies, cheesecake, marshmellows, banana. It is a fun experience but go hungry and go with lots of time. We spent at least 2 1/2 hours there.
Hey you! I was all prepared to write a very profound comment on this post. But then I read what Ness wrote...so, there is really nothing more to say other than "yeah, what Ness wrote!" She said it perfectly.
So perfectly that I think we all should get together and head out to The Melting Pot with Michelle!!! I followed her link and checked the place out online. What can I tell ya other than it might be worth getting on an airplane for! BWAHAHAHA!
Have a great weekend, Tonjia. Unless it's not your weekend, then have a good time at work. Well, not a good time...AWWW, YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN!!! :)
Oh I see the pride, and hear the pride in your voice. All will be well, and life will go on. Yes you are and always will be an Air Force Family, that can't be taken away from you. You are a stronger family than most, and you prove that you can find your dreams.
This is such a great step forward. I know people always say, things happen for a reason and it is hokey, but sometimes it is true. Things will work out for the better because obviously that path was not meant to be. I new better brighter path is in the future!
Ok, now that you've said this...
GET YOUR TUSHIE BACK ON THE LIST!
LOL
Much Love,
AF Mom Lea
